In the Baltic Sea resort of Göhren on Rügen, the filmmaker's home village, the population is arguing about the future of the popular holiday resort. The local council has been dominated for years by a group of men who always want more growth.
But when a rich investor wants to build on the last untouched coast, committed resident Nadine and her father take action against it. They quickly realize that they can only protect the unique nature reserve in their homeland if they can gather like-minded people around them and gain a majority in the local council. Can they overcome the old power cartel?
"Who owns my village?" is a very personal film about the nature of democracy, about greed and nature conservation. It shows that political participation is nowhere as direct as in local politics.
