A look behind the scenes of the global fight against tax avoidance.
Every year, the countries of the world lose around 500 billion dollars because private individuals and corporations find loopholes to pay little or no taxes. "Tax Wars" explains the number-heavy topic clearly, even for people who don't think they understand much about tax justice. Experts such as the French economist Thomas Piketty, Nobel Prize winner Joseph Stiglitz and the Norwegian lawyer Eva Joly have their say. They show how the "empires" of Amazon, Apple and Co. are using armies of lawyers and bankers to evade their social responsibility.
A small group of rebels, the Independent Commission for the Reform of Corporate Taxation, is trying to put a stop to this. The film follows its members on their mission to reorganize the global tax system and make the world's big and rich pay up.
