“They look at me from their souls.” In Claudia Andujar’s photographs, the Yanomami look into your soul from the soul.
When Andujar was looking for a new meaning in life in the 1960s after the murder of her family in the Holocaust, she found it in the middle of the Brazilian Amazon: she campaigned with the Yanomami living there against the exploitation of the rainforest and the expulsion of the indigenous population. After more than 50 years, her deep gaze and her commitment left arrows in the hearts of the Yanomami, whom Andujar accompanied photographically for many years.
This film shows the Yanomami’s struggle for survival from the 1960s to the present day in a deeply shocking and hopeful way.
